Introduction
Industrial agriculture utilizes lots of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, which can increase production within a short period, but degenerate land, induce soil erosion, damage ecosystem, and pollute environment in the long run. Organic farming aims at producing nutritious and safe food for human, maintaining a balanced and productive ecosystem. It creates a new relationship among human, food and ecosystem.
HOFA (Hong Kong Organic Farming Association) aims at promoting the development of local organic movement and popularizing the benefits of organic farming to the public. HOFA, a non-profit making organization, was founded by eight local farms in May, 1999.
Aims and Objectives
To promote a sustainable food production system through the advocacy of organic farming for improving human health and environmental protection
- To co-ordinate the network of organic producers and supporters in the region, forming a representative entity that enhances mutual benefit and cooperation.
- To develop a healthy organic movement that delivers high quality organic production through the establishment of a local organic standard and certification program.
